Nintendo Super Famicom Superscope
Nintendo Super Famicom Superscope. The Super Scope, orknown in PAL regions as the Nintendo Scope (Europe and Australia), is the official Super Nintendo light gun. The successor to the NES Zapper, the Super Scope was released in the European and North American markets, with a limited release in Japan due to a lack of consumer demand. It is a wireless gun and uses an infrared receiver which plugs into the right port of the console, comparable to the Menacer for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. It has two action buttons, a pause button, a power switch and is powered by six AA batteries. It has one “fire” button for shooting, either in single bursts or a constant stream, depending on whether or not its on/off switch is set to “turbo”. It also has a second “cursor” button and a “pause” button. It fires an infrared beam that is picked up by a sensor placed on top of the television, and where on the screen it is aiming is determined by the sensor after calibrating the scope by shooting a test target screen.
Packaged with a 6-in-1 game called Super Scope 6 The Nintendo Super Famicom Superscope is featured in the game Yoshi’s Safari, which is played using the actual Super Scope peripheral. Super Scopes also cameo as an in-game item used by Sniper Bills in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and the peripheral can be seen in the WarioWare: Touched! microgame, Gunslinger. In volume 8 of theSuper Mario-Kun, Mario uses a Super Scope (sent by Princess Peach) to defeat the Kurokyura. Games that worked with the Super Scope include: Super Scope 6, Battle Clash, X-Zone, Yoshi’s Safari, Bazooka Blitzkrieg, Metal Combat: Falcon’s Revenge and Tin Star. The Super Scope is also a treasure in Tomodachi Life.
