Sega Saturn Virtua Fighter 2 SKUSS9
Sega Saturn Virtua Fighter 2 SKUSS9 is a fighting game developed by Sega released in the arcade in 1994 and ported to the Sega Saturn in 1995.
Virtua Fighter 2 was known for its breakthrough graphics and introduced the use of texture-mapped 3D characters, and motion capture animation technology. Virtua Fighter 2 builds on this however by featuring faster-paced gameplay and momentum-based damage (i.e. charging at an enemy deals more damage than attacking while standing still). It also features more moves, including the ability for some characters to sidestep attacks.
The arena size could be adjusted up to a very small platform or all the way to 82 meters. This is the only game in the series—other than Virtua Fighter Remix—that could have such size adjustments. The physical energy meter could also be adjusted to infinity, giving the player the advantage when beating opponents or practicing moves against the computer player. Adjusting the arena to a smaller size and giving the characters infinite health could lead to mock sumo matches, wherein victory is achieved by knocking the other player’s character out of the ring.

Following the arcade release, it was subsequently ported to the Sega Saturn in 1995. The Saturn version added an option for remixed music, and a “learning” feature where the AI would adapt to the player’s abilities. Due to hardware restrictions, the framerate was changed to 60 from the arcade’s 57.5, and the 3D backgrounds were changed to 2D bitmaps.
